Living on the water is something special. Among the many great things about living in beautiful Washington state is the many opportunities that exist to buy a waterfront property. With so much water to speak of, it’s only natural that countless homes would exist on the shores of area lakes and rivers – and that doesn’t even say anything of Puget Sound. If you have always dreamed of living on the water, shopping for property in Washington state is a great place to start.
If you are on a mission to live on the water somewhere in Washington state, a good start would be to decide on a general area before narrowing it down to specific properties. If you are thinking about lakefront living, homes on Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish are sure to be a focus of your search. Of course, as these are desirable locations, these will be some of the most expensive waterfront homes for sale in Washington state. Depending on market conditions, a million-dollar budget might not be much more than a starting point when trying to live on the shores of these two desirable lakes. Should you find that the homes here are a bit too steep for your budget at the moment. Lake Stevens is another nice option. While we still aren’t talking about bargain level shopping or anything like that, you do have the chance to find a more affordable property along its banks.
Looking for a bigger expanse of water to enjoy? Puget Sound is calling, and there are countless properties available along it’s extensive shoreline. Of course, saying you want to live on Puget Sound doesn’t narrow it down all the much, since that can include locations which are hours apart. Waterfront homes on Puget Sound can be found close to Seattle, or they can be found out on the Kitsap Peninsula on relatively rural locations. Staying closer to the city will almost always cost more money, and you can expect to find a smaller piece of shoreline to call your own.
One interesting option for waterfront living which we should not overlook is Lake Union, right in the heart of Seattle. Lake Union is connected to Puget Sound by the Ballard Locks, and also to Lake Washington by the Montlake Cut. Not only is it possible to live next to Lake Union, but it is also possible to live directly on the lake in a house boat. This is a truly northwest experience, and while it might not be for everyone, it is something to consider if you love the water.
Depending on where you are shopping, and what kind of property you are shopping for, living on the water in Washington State may not come cheap. With that said, there are a few bargains out there to be found, if you know where to look. Working with an experienced real estate agent can tip the odds in your favor while on a mission to find the perfect home.
