The city of North Bend is along I-90 in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains to the east of the Seattle metro area. The unofficial gateway to the Snoqualmie Pass area, North Bend is the last city along the freeway before drivers head up into the mountains. Defined geographically by Mount Si, North Bend is a picturesque town of slightly more than 5,000 people. There are a variety of historical old buildings around the town that give it a charm and rural feel.
North Bend covers a fairly large geographic area, so MLS listings for homes in North Bend are likely to vary quite a bit in their style and price. The median house for sale in North Bend goes for around $350,000, but there will be a lot of variance around that number in both directions. Almost all of the residents of the city live in single family homes.
There are a couple of specific attractions that serve to draw people to the North Bend area – Mount Si, and the outlet mall near the freeway. Mount Si is a hugely popular hike that draws crowds on any sunny summer day. The Mount Si trail leads all the way to the summit, and can be done as a day hike for those who are up for the challenge. The view from the top of Mount Si is simply incredible on a clear day. Because it offers such a great nature experience and is such a short drive from Seattle, this trail is one of the most popular throughout the region. The outlet mall close to I-90 also encourages many to drive out from the bigger cities, offering a variety of discount shops from some major brand names.
Although it feels like a ‘mountain town’, North Bend residents can easily commute into cities like Bellevue and even Seattle on a daily basis. This opportunity makes North Bend a desirable place to live for those who need to work in the city but prefer the quiet life among the trees.
